The County Government of Mombasa has launched the Stawisha Revolving Fund , a new financing initiative aimed at empowering small traders and micro-business owners across the county through riba-free, interest-free loans . The programme seeks to provide an alternative source of affordable business capital for residents who want to start, expand or strengthen their small businesses without taking conventional interest-bearing loans. Biashara Mtaani Loan Offers Up to KSh 15,000 The first phase of the Mombasa County Revolving Fund is the Biashara Mtaani programme. Under this phase, eligible applicants can access an interest-free loan of between KSh 8,000 and KSh 15,000 to support their micro-business activities. The financing is intended to benefit a wide range of small-scale traders, including young people, women, marginalised communities and other eligible micro-business operators . In the world of medicine, bizarre cases occasionally emerge that leave even the most experienced doctors stunned. One such case comes from China, where a young woman named Luo Cuifen shocked the world after doctors discovered 26 sewing needles embedded inside her body.

Luo, who was 31 years old at the time of the discovery, had lived her entire life unaware that her body harbored a deadly secret. The needles were not just lodged in her muscles but had pierced into some of her most vital organs—her lungs, liver, kidneys, and even her brain, where one needle had broken into three separate pieces.

According to doctors and investigators, the needles were most likely inserted when Luo was still a baby. In rural China during that time, there was a strong cultural preference for male children. Families that longed for sons often viewed the birth of a daughter as a disappointment. It is suspected that Luo’s grandparents, dissatisfied that she was born a girl, secretly attempted to kill her by inserting the sharp sewing needles into her tiny body.


Incredibly, she survived.

Instead of succumbing to the hidden torture, Luo grew up healthy and lived for decades without realizing what had been done to her. Her body’s natural defense mechanisms had, in some cases, sealed off the foreign objects, allowing her to live a relatively normal life. It wasn’t until a routine medical check-up in adulthood that the shocking discovery was made.

This disturbing case not only highlights the dark side of cultural pressures but also serves as a remarkable story of human resilience. Luo’s survival against such odds is almost unexplainable—a living reminder of how life can persist even in the most hostile conditions.

The case sparked debates worldwide about gender preference, hidden violence, and survival, forcing many to reflect on how cultural traditions can sometimes clash with the basic value of human life.

Truly, the world can be a crazy place—where one woman unknowingly carried 26 silent witnesses of her survival inside her body for more than 30 years.
