Africa is not for beginners: Celebrating youth coaches who nurture future talent Africa Is Not for Beginners: A Tribute to Youth Coaches Africa is not for beginners. In a continent overflowing with potential, creating a suitable environment to nurture talent is often misunderstood. Too many people view it as a waste of funds, forgetting that true greatness is born from the foundations we choose to invest in today. Behind every successful athlete, artist, or leader, there is always someone who believed in them first. That “someone” is often a youth coach — the unsung hero who gives their time, energy, and wisdom not for fame or wealth, but for the growth of the next generation. These coaches are mentors, role models, and guardians of hope. In fields where resources are scarce and recognition is minimal, youth coaches continue to train, guide, and inspire. They sacrifice comfort, push through challenges, and choose to see potential where others see nothing. Their impact goes ...

KENYAN HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS TURN MUSICIANS: THE STORY OF XTENDED LIFE

Two Kenyan high school teachers, Murphrey (Vagaa) and Sefa Gene, are breaking barriers and proving that passion knows no limits. By founding Xtended Life, the duo has shown that even educators can dream big, pursue music, and inspire the next generation of artistes in Kenya.

From Teachers to Musicians: How Xtended Life Was Born

The journey of Murphrey and Sefa began back in their university days, where they discovered their shared love for music. Both were training to become teachers, yet their hearts were equally invested in songwriting and performing.

“From the beginning, we knew we had something special. We were both in teacher training, but our hearts were equally invested in music. When we decided to work together, it felt completely natural,” Murphrey shared.

This friendship and vision gave birth to Xtended Life in 2023, and within just two years, the Kenyan music duo has already started making waves online.

Challenges on the Road to Success

Like many upcoming Kenyan artistes, funding remains a major hurdle. The duo admitted that inadequate finances have slowed down some of their projects.

“We have many ideas to explore, but our big challenge is money,” they said.

Despite this, Murphrey and Sefa continue to balance their teaching careers while investing in their passion for music—setting an example of persistence for both their fans and their students.

What Kind of Music Does Xtended Life Create?

Xtended Life Entertainment is not just about entertainment—it is about truth, storytelling, and emotional connection.

“We create music that speaks the truth, inspires emotion, and challenges the ordinary. From Nairobi to the world, our sound blends soulful vocals, deep storytelling, and experimental vibes. Without music, life would be a mistake,” explained Murphrey.

Some of their popular unreleased tracks already known to fans on social media include:

  • Made in China (Ching Chong)
  • One Goal
  • Kemoda
  • Songa
  • Mtamu Nanee

With their growing online following, there is growing anticipation for the official release of these songs.

Why Murphrey and Sefa Stand Out

Unlike many artistes in Kenya, Murphrey and Sefa wear two hats: educators and musicians. By day, they teach in high schools, shaping young minds. By night, they pour their creativity into music, inspiring their students to follow their dreams no matter the obstacles.

This unique blend of professionalism and passion makes them role models both inside and outside the classroom.

The Future Of Xtended Life Entertainment

The dream for Murphrey and Sefa is clear: to take their music from Kenya to the world stage. With their soulful sound, relatable storytelling, and a growing fan base, Xtended Life is one of the most promising upcoming acts in the Kenyan music industry.

Xtended Life is proof that passion, persistence, and friendship can push boundaries. Whether in class or on stage, Murphrey and Sefa are rewriting what it means to be Kenyan teachers—and artistes.
